Braga

Work on the Roman "Bracara Augusta" began during the reign of emperor Augustus in 27bc. The city was taken over by the Sueves, Visigoths and Muslims until reconquered by Christians in the 11th century.
In the 16th century the Archbishop Diogo de Sousa, "the rebuilder of Braga" transformed the "village into a city" Then came Archbishops Rodrigo de Moura Teles and José de Bragança who left behind the exuberant Baroque style.
