Bom Jesus

An Italian inspired neo-classical design, integrates harmoniously with the landscape of northern Portugal. The baroque stairway leading to the top contains 17 landings adorned with symbolic fountains and allegoric statues.
Reach the Bom Jesus Sanctuary by foot and take the vertical tram on return, an impressive piece of 19th century engineering that continues to use its water-powered system to power up the 300-metre slope in just 3 minutes.
